چکیده

Most of the published theory on the optimal performance of decision-feedback equalization under the MMSE criterion addresses the transmission of i.i.d. symbol sequences only. This paper presents a theory which accommodates the case of correlated symbol sequences. It also considers the use of a fractionally spaced forward filter in the decision-feedback equalizer (DFE). Two limiting conditions are discussed in some detail, both concerning having an infinite-length DFE feedback filter. In one of them the forward filter is of finite length and in the other it is noncausal infinite. Several numerical examples are given, in which we apply the theory to the study of the MMSE transmission performance, at ISDN basic access rates, of a few example subscriber lines using some well-known line codes. In these examples, the near-end crosstalk from identical digital transmission systems is assumed to be the only significant noise. Throughout the study, we ignore the effects of error propagation in a DFE.

Performance Comparison of Time-Domain Equalization (TEQ) Techniques in a Discrete Wavelet Multitone (DWMT) System for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)

A Discrete Wavelet Multitone (DWMT) transceiver is proposed for the Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) channel, which promises greater subchannel spectral containment, as compared to the Fourier transform based conventional Discrete Multitone (DMT) system. Wavelet packet transform applied in DWMT system is robust against narrowband interference and impulse noise. It is also spectrally ...

Mitigation of crosstalk on the SDSL upstream transmission with vector equalization

This paper provides a new approach to mitigate the crosstalk interference in the symmetric digital subscriber line (SDSL) upstream transmission. A vector channel equalizer has been proposed for the SDSL upstream receiver to enhance spectral compatibility for the SDSL services. This approach outperforms a conventional scalar equalizer, which used in the current SDSL systems, is about a 15dB gain...

MMSE–Based Iterative Equalization with Soft Feedback for QAM Transmission over Sparse Channels

In this paper, an equalization algorithm based on soft–decision feedback, designed for transmission with square QAM constellations is introduced. The algorithm employs a minimum mean–squared error (MMSE) filter in each iteration in order to refine the data estimates. The rule for generating soft decisions is adapted continuously to the current state of the algorithm. It is shown that the algori...

DWMT transceiver equalization using overlap FDE for downlink ADSL

Discrete wavelet multitone (DWMT) modulation is a wavelet transform based technique implemented using perfect reconstruction filter banks. It has been recently proposed for various wireline channels such as digital subscriber loops (DSLs) as a solution to the problems posed by a discrete multitone (DMT) transceiver including interblock interference (IBI) and lower spectral efficiency due to the...

Fast algorithm for finite-length MMSE equalizers with application to discrete multitone systems

This paper presents a new, fast algorithm for finite-length minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizers. The research exploits asymptotic equivalence of Toeplitz and circulant matrices to estimate Hessian matrix of a quadratic form. Research shows that the Hessian matrix exhibits a specific structure. As a result, when combined with the Rayleigh minimization algorithm, it provides an efficient ...
